Louis Burns as a standout for the cross country and track field teams. He won indoor IC4A titles in the 800 meters and the mile, before claiming outdoor titles in the 1500 meters and the mile. In 1936, he won the Princeton Half Mile, which was sanctioned for selection to the United States Olympic Team.
