A record holder for hammer throwing and weight throwing, Ryan ranks sixth on the all time Hammer List at Manhattan. He earned NCAA All American status as a senior when he hurled the hammer for a personal best of 211 feet 8 inches. Ryan was named All East six times, qualified for the NCAAs twice and was a four-time Metropolitan Champion, twice for the hammer and twice for the weight. He coached track and field at Manhattan while in grad school.
