Lindy Remigino was a standout performer for the track & field team, while also earning national acclaim with a pair of Olympic Gold Medals. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, he sprinted to gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.4, edging Jamaica's multi-talented Herb McKenley in a final that saw the top four finishers all awarded the same time. Then in the 4x100m relay, he ran the third leg en route to help lead the Americans to victory. Remigino's efforts would lead to induction into the USA Track & Field (USATF), New York Athletic Club and New York Armory Track Center Hall of Fames. At Manhattan, he earned All-American honors following a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash at the 1952 NCAA Outdoor Championships, and won three EC4A championships at the 100-meter, 200-meter and 220-yard distances. After graduating from Manhattan, he was undefeated in the 100 meters at post-Olympic European track and field competitions, before becoming a physical education teacher and track and field coach at Hartford Public High School, his alma mater. Remigino led his teams won 31 state titles and guided 157 athletes to individual state championships.
