Don Dunphy was a standout performer for the track and field team, before embarking on a successful professional career as a boxing announcer. Dunphy broadcast "Friday Night Fights" on ABC from 1939-81, and was part of the American Sportscasters Association inaugural Hall of Fame class in 1984. A member of the organization's Board of Directors, he was elected to the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame in 1986, before garnering inclusion into National Radio Hall of Fame in 1988. A member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, he won the 1982 Sam Taub Award for excellence for Broadcasting Journalism in boxing.Â
