John "Doc" Johnson served as the Manhattan College Athletic Trainer from 1947-2003, helping thousands of Jasper student-athletes recover and rehabilitate from various injuries. He also held the same role with the New York Giants until retiring after Super Bowl XLII in 2008 and joined team's Ring of Honor in 2015. In 1990, Johnson received the Distinguished Service Award by the Manhattan College physical education department, before being given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the MAAC in 1997. In 1998, the American College of Sports Medicine gave him a similar award, and the National Invitational Tournament/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association honored him in 2000 with its Distinguished Service Award. Upon Johnson’s retirement from the Manhattan in 2003, the athletic training room adjacent to Draddy Gymnasium was renamed in his honor.
