George Eastment was the head track & field coach at Manhattan College from 1946-63, during which time his teams won 38 Metropolitan titles and 10 IC4A crowns. In addition to his successful teams, Eastment coached a number of outstanding individuals and relays. One of his 2-mile relay teams set the world indoor record in 1961 on an 11 lap-to-the-mile track. Another 2-mile relay later broke the world indoor record on a 12 lap-to-the-mile track. Among the individuals he coached were at Manhattan were Lindy Remigino, who won a pair of gold medals at the 1952 Olympics, and Lou Jones, who won gold at the 1956 Olympics. Eastment also served as President of the Track Coaches Association from 1957-58, coached the United States in its first-ever dual meet with the Soviet Union and was a member of the 1960 U.S. Olympic coaching staff.
