John Kennelly helped Manhattan go 8-0 in league play to win the title as a freshman. Kennelly helped Manhattan win the league title in 1974 as a freshman.

He played first singles and doubles all four years and was a three-time team captain during his sophomore through senior seasons. Kennelly helped the Jaspers post solid winning records in three of his four seasons.

He went 11-3 and 10-4 in his singles junior and senior seasons for the Green and White and recorded a ten-match winning streak as a junior.

Kennelly was named team Outstanding Performer and MVP for the Jaspers as a sophomore, junior and senior from 1975 to 1978.

As a senior, Kennelly also served as class president. Kennelly and fellow MCHOF Jasper tennis teammate Gerard Smith are the current 65 and over National Doubles Champions in Platform Tennis.
