This team pulled off one of the best wins in Manhattan College history, upsetting top-ranked West Virginia, led by NBA Hall of Famer Jerry West, on March 11, 1958 at Madison Square Garden in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.  Six players from that squad are current members of the Manhattan Athletic Hall of Fame, including Jack Powers and Bob Mealy, who each scored 1,000 points and were named as two of the Top-20 Jaspers from the first 100 years of Manhattan Basketball.  The team broke nine team or individual records and posted wins over Connecticut, Memphis, and Fordham.
