Bill Campion was the “giant in the middle” for the men's basketball program, helping lead the Jaspers to a 48-31 record from 1972-75 and three consecutive NIT appearances. One of the top rebounders in program history, he graduated as the Manhattan all-time leader for rebounds in a game (30), season (419) and career (1,070). Campion also finished up with 1,223 career points to become the first player in program history to join the elusive 1,000-point, 1,000-rebound club at Manhattan. He averaged 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds each time out over 74 career games in three seasons.  As a junior in 1973-1974, Campion pulled down his aforementioned school-record 419 caroms en route to averaging 15.5 rebounds and 20.7 points each time out in winning the Haggerty Award. In 1972-1973, he became the first player in program history to grab 400 rebounds in a season (402), and notched 13.9 points and 15.5 rebounds per game. As a senior, Campion registered 14.3 points and 11.9 rebounds en route to leading the Jaspers to a third-straight NIT berth and a First Round victory over UMass. He was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the fourth round of the 1975 NBA Draft. Campion, however, instead elected to played professionally in Italy before joining the Washington Generals.
