Riverdale, NY – Thanks to Erica Modena's (Jr., Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) first-half goal in last Friday's season opener, the Manhattan women's soccer team bested Vermont 1-0. Modena recently sat down with the Jasper Sports Network (JSN) in the Marro Broadcast Studio to talk about win and preview Friday's match against Fordham.
With The Win Over Vermont …
* Manhattan collected its third-straight season-opening victory and is now 13-11-1 in lidlifters
* Improved to a perfect 2-0, all-time, against the Catamounts
* Moved to a perfect 6-0 in home openers under head coach Brendan Lawler
The Goal
Modena scored the lone goal against Vermont off a pass from senior Colleen Kavanagh (Rockville Centre, NY / Sacred Heart Academy) that was aided by a Lizzy Carlson (Jr., Auburn, MA / Auburn) dummy. Modena's goal capped an impressive return from an injury that forced her to miss all but three games a year ago. Click HERE for the full highlights and HERE for a GIF of the goal.
Skonieczny Stands Tall
Senior goalie Kristen Skonieczny (Lagrangeville, NY / Arlington) notched five of her six saves after halftime, highlighted by a diving stop, to preserve the win and shutout against the Catamounts. Skonieczny, who matched the program record a year ago with eight victories, now has 15 career wins and nine shutouts.
Active Leaders
Modena's goal makes her the active leader on the team seven career goals and 17 points. Senior Emily Ude (Babylon, NY / North Babylon) is the active leader with five assists.
