HAMDEN, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Soccer team (7-6-5, 6-5-1 MAAC) fell in its conference contest Wednesday afternoon to the Bobcats from Quinnipiac University (8-3-5, 8-0-4 MAAC) by a final score of 2-0 at Quinnipiac Soccer Stadium to close the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Four minutes after opening kick, the Bobcats' Morgan Cupo scored the first goal to break the ice.
- Amaya Hill's chance in the 13th minute missed wide, with the next three shots from Mayah Wheeler, Scarlett Smith, and Olivia McMaster being blocked.
- Scarlett Smith registered Manhattan's sole shot on target in the 35th, saved by Quinnipiac's Olivia Jarvis.
- The home squad tried once more to increase the margin on the visitors, but a blocked chance in the final ten seconds before the horn sent both teams to the locker room.
- McMaster found a good look to start the second set of 45, saved again by Jarvis.
- Molly Brunk collected her second and third saves consecutively in the 57th minute, stopping chances from Cupo and Madison Alves within eight seconds.
- Kaylee Stowell joined McMaster in the final 15 minutes of putting more pressure on Jarvis, who saved both opportunities.
- Just before the 87th minute struck, Addyson Earl doubled up on the Bobcat lead to put the Jaspers away.
STATS AND NOTES
- Despite losing in the on goal category, Manhattan outshot the Bobcats slightly, by a margin of 12-10.
- Junior midfielder Olivia McMaster led the charge offensively for the Jaspers, accumulating four total shots, two of them on target.
- Junior goalkeeper Molly Brunk gathered another three saves, increasing her season total to 50.
- Sophomore defender Lily Bandel, McMaster, Junior defender Talia Omer, and Senior defender Mayah Wheeler all logged a full 90 minutes on the pitch.
