2007-08 NCAA Public Recognition Awards (by School)
RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? The Manhattan College baseball and women's soccer programs were recently honored by the NCAA with public recognition awards for their immense success in the classroom. According to the latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, both programs ranked in the top 10 percent of all Division I schools in their respective sports. The NCAA honored 712 sports teams with public recognition awards.
The Jaspers were one of just 30 baseball programs to be named in the 2007-08 Public Recognition Report. Manhattan was joined by just two other MAAC institutions, Fairfield and Niagara, on the list. In total, 311 men's or mixed sports teams were recognized.
Manhattan's women's soccer squad was joined by Marist as the only two MAAC programs to be named on the 31 team list. A total of 401 Division I women's teams received public recognition awards.
The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 965 to a perfect 1,000.
The teams recognized this year for high achievement represent 11.4 percent of the approximately 6,272 Division I teams. A total of 192 institutions, out of 329 Division I colleges and universities, placed at least one team on the top APR list.
