Riverdale N.Y (November 2, 2006)--Manhattan College women's soccer players
Katie Kuntz and
Viviane Masters were named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District women's soccer teams. It is the first time since the 2001 season that the program has placed student-athletes on the Academic All-District teams.
Kuntz, a senior back from Rockville Centre, N.Y. was named to the All-District First Team. A communications major, Kuntz posted a 3.93 grade point average. As a Tri-captain, Kuntz was instrumental in helping Manhattan win a program record 12 games. A Second Team All-MAAC selection a year ago, Kuntz followed that up by leading the Lady Jaspers with 11 goals and 24 points, both good for fourth in the MAAC, Kuntz also scored six game winning goals, including an overtime goal that ended Loyola College's 45 game MAAC unbeaten streak. As a result of her All-District First Team selection, Kuntz's name will now appear on a national ballot making her eligible for Academic All-American honors.
Masters, a sophomore back from New Canaan, Conn. was named to the All-District Second Team. A French/history double major, Masters posted a perfect 4.00 grade point average. Masters was a key member of a Manhattan defense that posted a team record five consecutive shut outs, and seven overall. She also started all 19 games the Lady Jaspers played this season.
The Lady Jaspers finished the season at 12-5-2, winning a team record six straight games to begin the season, and finished fifth in the MAAC with a 4-3-2 record. Manhattan is still awaiting word on whether they will be invited to the ECAC Women's Soccer Championships, held on November 11 and 12.
