SHAWN TARQUINIO JOINS WOMEN'S SOCCER STAFF

RIVERDALE, NY (June 26, 2002) - Head women's soccer coach John Sanchez announced today the hiring of Shawn Tarquinio as Manhattan's Assistant Women's Soccer Coach.

Tarquinio brings over 12 years of coaching experience to Manhattan. Most recently, Tarquinio served as the head coach for the Freeport High School Boys Varsity squad for the past three years. Since 1997, Tarquinio has trained 14 & Under Girls and 11 & Under Boys at the Oceanside United Soccer Club. Presently, Tarquinio also serves as the President of the Shawn Tarquinio Soccer Program, in which he organizes and oversees various clinics, training sessions and camps.

Tarquinio is an "A" Licensed Coach by the United States Soccer Federation and is also a member of the United States Soccer Coaches Association. Additionally, he was awarded a US Soccer Youth Badge as well as Permanent Certification for Physical Education and Health in New York.

From 1992-96, Tarquinio spent four years with both the Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity squads at Baldwin High School. Also of note, Tarquinio served as a coach and scout for the Staten Island Vipers, a professional soccer team, in 1998. He also taught several coaching courses at the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association.

Tarquinio's playing career includes a six-year stint with the Oceanside United Soccer Club, part of the Long Island Senior Football League.

A resident of Long Beach, NY, Tarquinio earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Adelphi University in 1992 and completed his Master of Arts degree in Liberal Studies at SUNY Stony Brook in 2000.

Tarquinio replaces Suzy Strazzulla, who left Manhattan to accept an assistant coaching position at St. John's.
