EMMITTSBURG, MD – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Soccer team (3-5-2, 2-1-1 MAAC) claimed victory in its second consecutive fixture with a 3-0 clean sheet victory over the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's (1-6-4, 1-3-0 MAAC) at Waldron Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Looking to post back-to-back conference victories were the Green and White, who made their second-ever trip to Emmittsburg since 2023.
- Manhattan ensured it would keep the pedal to the metal in a crucial MAAC battle by opening the match with a pair of shots from Max Asplin-Rowley and William Fagerberg through the first nine minutes.
- Just minutes later, the Jaspers found the back of the net with Fagerberg tallying his fourth goal of the season with a perfect feed from Giovanni Rivera and Martin Rodriguez.
- The shots kept coming from both sides, before the Jaspers were a bit eager but disoriented by posting a pair of offsides down the stretch of the first half, before Rodriguez launched a shot wide.
- Just seconds till the half concluded, senior keeper Ludvig Malberg denied Mount's Fabian Perez to head to the locker room ahead by one goal.
- In the 47th minute on a counterattack, it was Fagerberg who succeeded on a Jasper bounce to clean up the loose change and send one to the right of the Mountaineer keeper for his fifth goal and marquee insurance tally.
- The Mountaineers fired off three shots with a couple of recorded saves for Malberg as the pressure began to amass for the Jaspers, but to no avail.
- Back and forth action, and physical play led to the third and final goal of the match with Fagerberg finding the back of the net for his third strike and sixth of the season to effectively send the Jaspers back to Riverdale with two conference victories.
