Giovatto Records 150th Men’s Soccer Victory; Jaspers Post Commanding Result v. Howard

RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Soccer team (2-2-0) continued right where they left off on Wednesday to post a 4:2 victory over the Bison of Howard University (0-3-0) inside Gaelic Park on Sunday afternoon.

The victory also marked the 150th victory for Head Coach Tom Giovatto as a Division I Men's Soccer coach, spanning between the then-NEC's St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers and the current Jaspers' men's soccer program.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Coming off the home opener victory over Maritime, the Green and White were poised to keep the good times moving forward.
  • The Jaspers did exactly this just four minutes into the contest, with a hesitation from the Bison midfielder that allowed graduate forward Cristiano Marsilii to steal the ball and win the 1 v. 1 battle with the Howard goalkeeper to score the opening goal.
  • Just three minutes following the opening goal, a free-kick in the box by Max Asplin-Rowley to Marsilii, then a bouncing ball to Nicolo Donadio for the final touch to add the insurance tally to the scoreboard.
  • After the Bison struck with a team goal, another Howard miscue in the box led to a handball penalty kick for the Jaspers. Marsilii took advantage, finding the back of the net for his second of the afternoon.
  • In the second stanza, after Howard narrowed its deficit to one, the Jaspers responded by putting their foot on the gas for the remainder. It was graduate defender and captain Andrea Campoli who added the final tally of the fixture, in the form of a header, with Tycho van Haaren finding the back-liner off a perfect set piece.
