Men’s Soccer Falls to Quinnipiac Despite Fagerberg’s Seventh Strike

HAMDEN, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Soccer team (3-6-2, 2-2-1 MAAC) fell to the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University (4-7-1, 2-3-0 MAAC) by a score of 2-1 inside Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After taking down the Mountaineers in Maryland 96 hours prior, the Green and White looked to build upon its second conference victory against a rallying Bobcats squad.
  • Manhattan put the pressure on Quinnipiac early with a pair of corner kicks within the first four minutes, along with sophomore midfielder William Fagerberg's first shot of the fixture.
  • A bit eager to jump in front, were the Jaspers, who found itselves offside twice in the next seven minutes after the Bobcats posted a pair of attempts high and wide of senior goalkeeper Ludvig Malberg.
  • Later in the first half, Manhattan continued its high powered attack with an additional four shots to post double digit attempts in the first half, compared to the Bobcats' four.
  • The Jaspers upstart attack continued its prowess just minutes out of the locker room, with Fagerberg finding the back of the net in the lower left corner out wide, to post his seventh of the campaign.
  • Just four minutes later, Quinnipiac found its rhythm with the equalizer.
  • The defense was able to fend off an additional pair of attempts from the Bobcats, before Max Asplin-Rowley had a shot on target, but was denied by the opposing goalkeeper.
  • Down the stretch of the match, the sea-saw of momentum shifted firmly in favor of the home team, where the Bobcats capitalized on fresh legs to post two unanswered markers, and eventually its second conference victory of the season.
STATS AND NOTES
  • Sophomore midfielder William Fagerberg continues his strong season after posting his seventh goal of the campaign on a team high five attempts, with two on target in 80 minutes on the pitch. Fagerberg joins Ziv Dahan, Henry Hamilton, and Gunnar Studenhofft as the quartet to score at least seven goals for the Jaspers, dating back to 2023.
