HANOVER, NH – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (16-26, 8-16 MAAC) split the first two games of the non-conference series with the Big Green of Dartmouth College (14-22, 7-11 Ivy League) by scores of 11-3 in nine innings, and 13-2 in seven from Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE
- After the midweek non-conference contest against the Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy was canceled on Wednesday, the Jaspers were back in action for the first time in six days.
- The Green and White launched out of the cannon early with Ryan Lordier leading off the game with a single through the left side, before Hunter Sute's base knock through the right side brought home Vincent Samuel from second.
- Starting pitcher Jackson Klein landed in some trouble midway through the second inning but escaped the jam by forcing a double play for the Big Green.
- In the third inning, Manhattan added to its lead with Andreaus Lewis tripling to left-center field and driving home the already-on-board Samuel, who worked a walk in the at-bat prior. The Jaspers kept things going with Sute doubling to right field and driving home Lewis from 90 feet away, giving the Green and White a second insurance marker and extending its lead to three.
- The fourth inning featured similar abilities from the Jasper bats with Colin Basehore leading off with a first-pitch double into right-center. Then, Lordier drove home Basehore to extend the lead to four.
- After the Big Green responded with two runs in the fifth inning, the Jaspers responded with two runs of their own, thanks in large part to a Dartmouth miscue.
- Followed by Lordier driving home Basehore from third to double-up the home team.
- In the eighth inning, the Jaspers added another run courtesy of Vincent Samuel finding a slot to right field and allowed Basehore to cross the plate once more.
- The Jaspers supplied an additional four runs to put the Big Green out of reach, with Lordier doubling to right with the bases loaded and driving home another, before Guriyandel Salva drove home Lordier and Mayer for a double-digit marker.
GAME TWO
- The Big Green opened the game with two quick runs in the first inning, but the Jaspers then responded in the second inning with a Trevor Hansen home run to right field to cut the Dartmouth lead in half.
- A seven-run second inning buried the Jaspers in a deep hole, but they slowly began to climb out of it, courtesy of Colin Basehore ripping a single to third base and driving home Andreaus Lewis for the second run of the game.
