POMONA, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Baseball team (7-11, 2-5 MAAC) took down the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University (6-12, 1-3 MAAC) by a score of 6-5 inside Clover Stadium on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Looking to open its home schedule in style, the Green and White, who were on an extended skid, fell behind early to the Bobcats.
- In the home half of the third, Trevor Hansen notched a leadoff base hit before a pair of Quinnipiac miscues allowed the Jaspers to put runners on second and third.
- On the next batter, Payton Matthews grounded back to the Bobcats' pitcher and fired wide of the catcher to bring home the two base runners and take the lead.
- After Quinnipiac tied the game at two in the top of the fourth inning, the Jaspers leapt back in front with Colin Basehore's one-out double to eventually lead Hunter Sute to nail a sacrifice fly and drive home Justin Best from ninety feet away to go back in front by one run.
- The Jaspers added some cushion with a Payton Matthews double after Ryan Lordier's leadoff single, before Vincent Samuel grounded out to second and scored Lordier.
- The Bobcats smacked a three-run home run to go back in front, before the Jaspers added a pair of base runners to eventually bring up the go-ahead potential run with Andreaus Lewis driving home Guriyandel Salva and Trevor Hansen with a single before the stellar defense of Quinnipiac's right fielder caught him at second.
- With Quinnipiac threatening again in the eighth inning, Jackson Klein forced Matt Park to ground into a double-play to avoid any further threat the Bobcats posed.
STATS AND NOTES
- Catcher Andreaus Lewis logged the go-ahead single in the seventh inning to drive home both Guriyandel Salva and Trevor Hansen and put the Jaspers on top.

- Infielder Trevor Hansen went 2-for-4, which featured crossing the plate twice and a strikeout.

QUOTES FROM THE JASPERS
Head Coach Steven Rosen: "Great team win tonight in so many ways. Awesome energy from the entire organization, top-down. Our dugout brought energy all game, and it helped us succeed in some big moments. Connor was outstanding and really set the tone for us with his approach. Can't ask for any more out of him. Klein came in and did more of the same. Showed great poise in the final two innings. We played great defense behind those guys and turned some big double plays to get off the field. Stayed on the barrel all night long offensively. Proud of the boys going 1-0 today and excited to get back out there tomorrow."
