FAIRFIELD, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers Baseball team (6-11, 1-5 MAAC) was upended by the Stags of Fairfield University (6-9, 4-2 MAAC) by a score of 7-2 inside Don'63 and Chris '88 Cook Field on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jaspers came alive to open the final contest of the three-game set with Jeremy Sosa getting his day started with a two-RBI base knock into right field to drive home Colin Basehore and Payton Matthews, who both walked just two and three batters in, respectively.
- In the home half of the third inning, Chris Fidanza, who was called in from the bullpen in relief of starter Trey Packen just three batters prior, struck out the two leadoff hitters in preseason Player of the Year, Matt Bucciero, and Luke Nomura for a pair of quick outs.
- After the Stags responded in the ensuing innings, the Green and White put together a strong top of the fourth, encapsulated by Vincent Samuel's double down the left-field line to drive home Sosa and tie the game at three.
- In relief of Fidanza came Matthew Steinberg, who retired the side in order in the fifth inning.
- Then came Hudson Pergamit for Steinberg, who retired the final two batters in the home half of the sixth, and stranded two runners in scoring position.
