RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Soccer team (2-3-4, 1-2-0 MAAC) defeated the Gaels of Iona University (2-7-2, 0-3-1 MAAC) with a score of 2-0 at Mazzella Field on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Looking to bounce back were the Jaspers in New Rochelle on Wednesday afternoon and did so in commanding fashion. In the 11th minute of play, the Gaels forced Manhattan to take its first corner kick, provided by Amaya Hill, who fed a perfect ball into the six, where Kaylee Stowell was able to bury the loose change to the back of the net. The Green and White would never look back.
- The home team would respond with a trio of shots before the Jaspers added an additional two before the half concluded.
- Manhattan started out a step behind Iona to open the second half but quickly bounced back with a quartet of shots led by Lauren Ahearn.
- Finding its rhythm once more as the match went on, were the Green and White, who were able to post its insurance marker with Mayah Wheeler playing a bounce to near perfection, that eventually was sent to Amaya Hill with an odd-player rush on the attack, where she fed it to Josslyn Weissman for her first collegiate tally to put the match away.

QUOTES FROM THE JASPERS
Head Coach
Brendan Lawler: "We were very organized defensively today. I thought we limited their chances very well. We played a bit more direct today. We also created a lot of chances too."
"We played well in a lot of games this year where we didn't get the result we wanted. We just need to continue to build that confidence for Saturday."
Junior Midfielder
Kaylee Stowell: "I don't score that often, and the adrenaline that came after. It feels so good. If you look at our record, we didn't have the best start to conference play. Coming off a win against one of our biggest rivals in the MAAC, will go a long way."
