RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Soccer team (3-1), on the backs of two goals from team captain
Lauren Ahearn, emerged victorious in its non-conference battle against the Hornets from Delaware State (0-2) by a final score of 3-0 at Gaelic Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just two minutes following opening kick, Madison Heitman got the scoring chances started, forcing a save from the Hornets' Jazmin Bailey.
- Ahearn joined Marlene Berlinghoff with a trio of chances through 15 minutes.
- Granted a free kick following a foul, Olivia McMaster found her spot with force, with a deflection from the visiting goalkeeper not enough to stop her shot, putting the Jaspers on top 1-0.
- Putting the crowd on their feet, Heitman forced another save from Bailey.
- Katie Cragan registered her own shot on target prior to both teams heading to the locker room after 45 minutes.
- A little more than 90 seconds after the start of the second half, Ahearn took a feed from Scarlett Smith and quickly doubled the Green and White lead.
- Thrust into action, Molly Brunk clocked her first save of the afternoon after a shot from Delaware State's Alyssa Peregrino in the 49th minute.
- In the 58th frame, Ahearn took in another pass from Heitman, putting her chance past the Hornets' Bailey for the third goal of the afternoon and her second of the day.
- Keeping the pressure on, the Jaspers did not allow another shot on target from the visitors for the rest of the contest, securing a 3-0 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
- Senior forward Lauren Ahearn scored two of Manhattan's three goals, the first multi-goal outing of her collegiate career.
- Senior midfielder Olivia McMaster recorded a second consecutive game with a goal, her second of the season.
- Senior goalkeeper Molly Brunk recorded the 20th shutout of her career, further extending her all-time program record.
- Manhattan dominated the shot battle, besting the Hornets 25-5 with a 9-1 advantage on target.
- The Jaspers extended their win streak to three today, their most since 2024.
