LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Soccer team (3-2), in its first Metro Conference game, fell against the Saints from Siena (5-1-1) by a final score of 1-0 at Hickey Field on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a relatively uneventful opening ten minutes, Lauren Ahearn registered the first shot on goal to force a save from the Saints' Cate Burns.
- Five minutes later, Molly Brunk saved Siena's first on target shot of the day, but a rebound shot from Anna Swyers put the hosts on top with the first goal of the afternoon.
- Brunk made another save to keep the deficit within one in the 28th minute.
- With no more quality chances on net, the two sides headed into the break at 1-0 Siena.
- Both teams continued feeling each other out to start the second half, with neither goalkeeper making a save again until the 60th minute, with one each coming 45 seconds apart.
- Manhattan brought sustained energy into the latter 45 minutes, firing off a few shots, including one from Bailiegh Johnson that forced a save from Burns in the 79th minute.
- Despite pushing until the very end, Siena outlasted the Jaspers by a final score of 1-0.
STATS AND NOTES
- Three Jaspers finished with four shots on target, with one each coming from Senior forward Lauren Ahearn, Senior midfielder Arancha Antunes, Freshman forward Baileigh Johnson, and Freshman defender Estelle Raspe.
- Senior goalkeeper Molly Brunk recorded three saves on the afternoon while facing nine shots.
- Manhattan edged out the Saints in the shot battle, winning 10-9 while on target opportunities were tied 4-4.
