FAIRFIELD, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers Women's Soccer team (1-3-4, 0-2 MAAC) dropped its conference contest Saturday afternoon against the Pioneers from Sacred Heart (3-3-1, 2-0 MAAC) by a score of 4-0 at Park Avenue Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior midfielder Olivia McMaster registered the first shot on goal for the Jaspers within the first five minutes, stopped by Sacred Heart goalkeeper Kyran Thievon.
- Off a counterattack, the Pioneers utilized a low shot to break the ice by the 15th minute.
- Over five minutes later, Sacred Heart's Morgan Bovardi capitalized again, also getting a low shot past in the 20th.
- McMaster followed up with a pair of on-target opportunities, but Manhattan still went into the break scoreless.
- In about a four minute span, the Jaspers generated five more shots on goal, with McMaster joining the likes of forwards Juniors Amaya Hill and Kaylee Stowell, along with Freshman Scarlett Smith.
- By the 75th minute, the Pioneers had tacked on two more, doubling their first half lead.
- Freshman Eryn Primus put together the last offensive chance for the Jaspers, forcing another Sacred Heart save in the 81st minute.
STATS AND NOTES
- Manhattan kept up the pace in shots, clocking more than Sacred Heart in the second half.
- Junior goalkeeper Molly Brunk tied a career-high in saves with nine.
- Junior defender Talia Omer played a full 90 minutes on the pitch, her fourth consecutive match doing so.
- The Jaspers tallied seven corner kicks, tying a season-high previously set against Central Connecticut State on August 21.
