Women's Basketball Wraps Up Navy Classic on Sunday Against Liberty

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - 
After dropping a tight one to Navy yesterday afternoon, Manhattan looks to get in the win category for the first time this year. Leading Manhattan in the points category has been Senior guard Brianna Davis, tallying double figures in all but one of the Jaspers' first six games. Graduate transfer Agar Farrés Garcia is establishing herself as the defensive anchor on the team, averaging 10.8 rebounds per game. That number leads the MAAC, edging past Saint Peter's De'Naya Rippey. Senior Hana Mühl has helped the offense facilitate, averaging 3.3 assists per game, good enough for 3rd across the MAAC. The Green and White finish out the Navy Classic in Annapolis, squaring off with the Flames on Sunday before heading home to take on Columbia from the Ivy League on Wednesday. 


Scouting the Opposition:

After opening the 2025-26 season with two straight wins, the Liberty Flames since stabilized to a 3-2 start after falling to James Madison and Duke.

In their Navy Classic opener yesterday against Duquesne, the Flames improved to 4-2 following a 67-60 victory.

Led by Sophomore center Emmy Stout, the San Diego, Calif. native is pacing Liberty with 15.8 points per game, averaging over six field goals a night through five starts.

Sophomore and Junior guards Avery Mills and JaKayla Thompson, as well as Junior forward Elisabetyh Aegisdottir combine for 7.5 assists a night.

Redshirt Freshman Ify Nwaobi leads the team in boards, averaging 10.5 a contest.

The Flames come off a 2024-25 season where they finished 26-7, going 16-2 inside Conference USA play.

Earning the top seed in time for the 2025 CUSA Championship, Liberty ran the table knocking down eighth-seeded Sam Houston State, fifth-seeded Louisiana Tech, and finally second-seeded Middle Tennessee State to earn their automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. 

Earning a 13 seed in time for the dance, the Flames narrowly dropped their opening round matchup to Kentucky in Lexington, by a final score of 79-78.

This will serve as the second ever matchup between Liberty and Manhattan, with the Jaspers picking up the 70-45 win inside Draddy Gym on December 29, 2000.
