Women's Basketball Drops 56th Battle Of The Bronx To Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (0-5), with four players posting in double figures, fell in the 56th Battle of the Bronx matchup with the Rams from Fordham (4-3) by a slim margin of 65-62 inside Rose Hill Gym on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Celeste Harper and Hana Mühl got the scoring started in favor of the visitors, scoring on a mid-range and layup respectively.
  • Agar Farrés Garcia extended the small Jasper lead to three on a layup of her own, completing the three point play at the stripe.
  • Fordham scored six unanswered points to take a three point advantage after 10 minutes.
  • Harper knocked down the first Manhattan three-pointer in the first minute of the second frame, slimming down the deficit to two.
  • Going up by as much as 12 with three minutes to play to the half, Kristina Juric found a combination of four points at the stripe and in the paint to get the game within single digits.
  • With only 2.4 seconds showing on the clock, Harper let the ball roll near half court before picking it up and creating separation in time for a buzzer-beating three point shot.
  • Juric grabbed a pair of buckets inside to start the second half, cutting the lead to five.
  • Scoring her first points of the day two minutes earlier off a layup, Elisa Solé Sanchez completed some transition offense with a make beyond the arc, trimming the margin to 51-45 with around a minute to play.
  • The graduate transfer did it again midway through the fourth, getting Manhattan back inside single digits.
  • On a handoff from Davis, Harper knocked down her third shot from range of the day to cut the lead to four.
  • Davis brought the game inside one possession with under two seconds to play, but it proved to be too little, too late as Fordham held on at the horn.
