Men’s Basketball Drops Overtime Thriller to Wagner

RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (3-4, 0-0 MAAC) fell to the Seahawks of Wagner College (1-5, 0-0 NEC) by a score of 103-101 in overtime on Wednesday night from inside Draddy Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jaspers returned home for the first time since their thrilling victory over St. Joe's Brooklyn, after logging nearly 13,000 air miles around the West Coast.
  • Manhattan got off to a 10-4 start with a pair of triples from Marko Ljubicic and Fraser Roxburgh. For the former, it was his second game with a successful three-pointer after unsuccessful attempts through his first two collegiate campaigns.
  • Making the advantage double-digits were the Green and White, who added a pair of threes from Jaden Winston and Roxburgh.
  • Despite two fouls, Roxburgh continued his pristine shooting with another triple to give the Jaspers a 13-point advantage, before Devin Dinkins' trip to the free-throw line allowed the Green and White to further widen the margin to as much as 15.
  • Both teams continued to trade baskets before a bad pass by the Seahawks allowed Terrance Jones to lay one home to give the Jaspers 40 points midway through the half.
  • Out of the locker room, the Jaspers continued where they left off, highlighted by an Erik Oliver-Bush triple to keep their lead at double-digits.
  • Slowly, the Seahawks mounted their comeback by trading baskets with the Jaspers, which featured taking advantage of a couple of missed Manhattan opportunities.
  • Four turnovers in three and a half minutes for the Jaspers turned into Wagner offense and three-pointers, eventually tying the game at 81.
  • With less than three minutes remaining, it was Roxburgh on the hook down low to give his team a lead once more.
  • Once the Seahawks took the lead, the Jaspers then mounted their comeback with an Anthony Isaac second-chance bucket, which featured an and-one opportunity. Isaac then sank home the tying free-throw to send the game into overtime.
  • Wagner continued its hot play with five quick points in the first 75 seconds of the extra period, before Winston added a floating jumper to tie the game at 94 and 95 off the and-one.
  • After the Seahawks tied the game at 96, it was Jones again with clutch three-point shooting to give the Jaspers another go-ahead lead, before Winston capitalized on another Wagner turnover to provide Manhattan with a five-point margin.
  • The opposition then ended the game on a five-to-nothing scoring run to leapfrog the Jaspers for the win.

  • Redshirt Junior guard Devin Dinkins posted 25 points off 12-of-14 from the free-throw line, while shooting five-of-17 from the floor that featured a trio of triples, while grabbing four rebounds, and five assists in 45 minutes on the floor.
  • Junior guard Jaden Winston recorded 21 points on eight-of-11 shooting and added four assists to his resume in 36 minutes of game time.
  • Sophomore forward Fraser Roxburgh registered another double-digit contest with 17 points on seven-of-10 shooting, while corralling three caroms, and assisting on four baskets in 33 minutes.
  • Graduate guard Terrance Jones logged 16 points on seven-of-eight from the charity stripe, with four converted baskets from the field, and one triple, while posting a game high five steals on the night.
