Roxburgh, Dinkins, Winston Each Net 18; Men’s Basketball Falls in Overtime to Army

WEST POINT, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (3-5, 0-0 MAAC) fell to the Black Knights of Army West Point (3-6, 0-0 Patriot) by a score of 81-78 in overtime from inside Christl Arena on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Coming off a nail-biting overtime effort against the Wagner Seahawks inside Draddy Gymnasium on Wednesday, the Green and White were back in action seeking to break a mini skid on one of the most prestigious Military bases in the nation.
  • Through the first three minutes, the Black Knights posted the first two baskets before Fraser Roxburgh found a driving lane to get the Jaspers on the board.
  • Midway through the opening half, the Jaspers would trail by as much as nine, before logging 11 of the following 14 points, spearheaded by Terrance Jones' three, and Anthony Isaac's second chance bucket in the paint to force a Black Knight stoppage.
  • Out of the timeout with two and a half minutes remaining, it was Isaac again from long range to pull the Green and White just one point behind the home team for the second time in as many minutes.
  • In the second half, the Jaspers put together six straight points behind Dinkins and Winston, posting a pair of triples to leapfrog the Black Knights, before Winston added to the lead with a floating jumper in the lane to extend their lead to four.
  • Back and forth down four and neither team posting points for nearly three minutes, it was Roxburgh to break the streak with a second chance triple off a Dinkins miss, to bring the Green and White within one.
  • Trailing by two with three minutes remaining, Roxburgh attempted another three, was unsuccessful, but Anthony Isaac grabbed his carom and fed Roxburgh through the lane to tie the game at 63.
  • Knotted at 63, the Jaspers played tight defense to eventually force a missed three-pointer before Winston grabbed the go-ahead three-pointer from deep in front of his bench with 14 seconds remaining.
  • With nearly two seconds remaining, the Black Knights hit a tying three to knot the game at 66.
  • In the overtime period, both teams would go back and forth before Army widened the margin to as much as five points, before Terrance Jones tied the game at 73 with a towering triple, but it was ultimately not enough.
