WEST POINT, N.Y. - Manhattan's Kristin Stickdorn set a school record in the weight throw on Day 1 of competition at the Army Open.
On her fifth attempt in the hammer throw, Stickdorn recorded a mark of 60.70 meters (199-2) to win the event with a personal best toss. Mary Gill's throw of 54.09 (177-5) placed her fourth, and Alexandra Caraher's throw of 50.58 meters (165-11) was good enough for fifth place.
Isabella Sing recorded a mark of 5.36 meters (17-7) on her second attempt in the long jump for a second-place showing this afternoon. She also placed second in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.33. Lauren Chappell (16.02) and Martina Martinez (16.41) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Skye Lehr took fifth in the women's 100 meters with a time of 13.11.
Thea Bakken recorded a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.35, while Elaina Batista was fifth in 1:04.97.
Martina Martinez placed third in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.77.Continuing her excellent performance in the distance events, Andria Scaglione won the 1,500 meters. Four seconds ahead of the pack, Scaglione won in 4:38.93. Her sister, Nicola, placed fifth in 4:55.62 and Bailee Christofis was sixth in 4:58.30.
On the men's side, Darion Lopez led a Manhattan heavy field in the 100 meters. Lopez won the event in 10.63 seconds, battling 3.2 m/s winds. Thomas Dubnov Raz was second (10.89), and Noah Jefferson was fourth (11.03). Jefferson followed it up in his specialty event, the 400 meters, with a time of 48.87 to win the race. Lopez clocked a time of 49.15 to give the Jaspers the 1-2 finish.
In the 110-meter hurdles,
Ben Domingo raced to a time of 15.73 for third place.
Jaxon Newton captured a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:02.18.
RJ Decker won the men's hammer throw with a launch of 65.19 meters (213-10) - over five feet ahead of second place. Alex Kristeller placed third with a mark of 62.48 meters (205-0).
Christopher Purchia tallied a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.40 meters (21-0). Ivan Lytovchenko placed third with a mark of 6.39 meters (20-11.75).
