RIVERDALE, N.Y. – A pair of former men's basketball alums have been in the news over the last couple of weeks.
 
George Beamon is competing in the One Basketball League (OBL) finals in Las Vegas this weekend. Beamon won the Los Angeles region of the tournament back on June 19 to advance to Vegas this weekend. Beamon went 10-2, with five straight wins on Sunday, in Los Angeles. The first games in Vegas start on Friday. The winner of the finals this weekend takes home $250,000. Beamon won $10,000 for his win in LA.
 
He played for the Jaspers from 2009-14. Beamon was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2014 MAAC Tournament when Manhattan beat Iona in the title game. This past season, Beamon played in Switzerland. He has also played in England and in the G-League with OKC and Texas.
 
Kidani Brutus represented the USA at the 2022 FIBA Men's 3x3 World Cup in Antwerp, Belgium. Team USA advanced to the quarterfinals, where they fell to Lithuania. Brutus and the US went 3-1 in pool play and beat New Zealand by one, 21-20, in the Last 16 before falling to Lithuania. Brutus averaged 5.4 points per game, including a tournament-high 11 against Austria.
 
Brutus donned the Green and White from 2010-12 and is third all-time in 3-point field goal percentage (.401).
