RIVERDALE, N.Y. — Manhattan Men's Basketball Head Coach John Gallagher has announced the addition incoming junior guard Ben Tweedy on Friday morning.
"Ben is a winner. He comes to us from Colgate with a proven track record of being the kind of player who makes programs better — not just with his ability to score and shoot it, but with how he competes and how he plays within a team," described Gallagher.
The 6-4 guard treks southbound to Riverdale, after joining the Raiders of Colgate University for the 2025-26 campaign, where he played a prominent role in the team's Patriot League Semifinal run, and top-ranked offense in the Patriot League.
The Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia native started in all 33 appearances a season ago for the Central New York based program.
Tweedy scored a season high 28 points in the victory over the Greyhounds of Loyola Maryland in the Patriot League Quarterfinals on March 8, with nine made buckets from the floor on 12 attempts. He sank five of eight from downtown as well.
He averaged 9.4 points per game and led the team in scoring six times during the season. Tweedy also recorded 85 assists, with a season-best eight against Lafayette on February 25. His overall assist total was good for 13th in the Patriot League. Additionally, he posted his first double-double in the same game against the Leopards in February.
From three-point range, Tweedy proved to be a sharpshooter, having converted 42-of-109 and finishing the year eighth in the Patriot League in 3-point percentage. He also scored at least 12 points in five of his last six games, donning the Raiders jersey.
In 2026, Tweedy converted 64 of 91 from the charity stripe, while grabbing 101 rebounds, tallying 19 steals, and scoring 310 total points, and averaged 29.5 minutes on the floor.
Before joining Colgate, Tweedy started his career in the United States in the Horizon League at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, playing in 32 games and starting nine in his freshman campaign.
Tweedy played 19.3 minutes per game and knocked down 55 shots in 131 total tries, and he converted 55 free throws in 67 attempts for an .821 marker. The combo guard also grabbed 83 rebounds, posted 71 assists, 12 steals, and logged 171 total points as a freshman.
In Australia, Tweedy was a two-time state champion at The Southport School, was twice tabbed to the school's Honor Roll, and was a State MVP in 2023.
His team was the National Champions, and he played a marquee role in the team's success, averaging 29 points, 10 boards, and 9 assists per game. He was also named Team Captain.
"Many Australian players come to the States having been coached hard. They understand the game well, and they know how to win. Ben fits that mold, and that winning mentality is what we seek at Manhattan."
In Riverdale, Tweedy will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in business marketing.
