RIVERDALE, N.Y. — Manhattan Men's Basketball Head Coach John Gallagher has announced the addition of incoming freshman guard Jahzar Greene on Thursday morning.

"Jahzar Greene comes in physically ready to compete at the Division I level," describes Gallagher. "That's rare for a freshman guard."

The 5'11" guard, hailing from Syracuse, played Varsity Basketball at Bishop Ludden-Grimes High School and shone throughout. Greene became the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,718 total points through his four years.

On the high school circuit, Greene was a two-time Section Champion in Class AAA, a two-time Sectional Championship MVP, and a three-time Peppino's Tournament MVP. In addition, he earned SCSD Tournament MVP four times and was named Downtown Classic MVP. A three-time First Team All-League and All-League MVP, Greene was named Class AAA Third Team All-State as a senior by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

"He was one of the best guards in the state this past season, and what separates him is the intensity and toughness he plays with every night."

As Greene grew, his numbers ascended with his age. He started off posting 202 total points, 54 made baskets from the floor, 13 triples, 52 rebounds, and 99 assists in 21 games played.

In his sophomore season, despite playing one less game and totaling 20, Greene tallied 29 triples, 278 total points with 114 assists, 35 steals, and 73 baskets from the floor.

During his junior year of high school, Greene more than doubled the number of two-point baskets on the year with 185. He tripled his free-throw total with 132, and tripled his point total with 615, grabbed 92 rebounds, assisted on 84 baskets, and played in 23 games. All of which was capped off with a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Section 3 Championship.

Greene's swan song in high school featured new career highs of 212 made baskets with 623 total points on the year, as well as new career highs of 44 steals and seven blocks in 23 contests.

Greene totaled 524 made baskets, 110 triples, 341 made free throws, 402 rebounds, 388 assists, 146 steals, 22 blocks, and played in 87 games.

Greene was a multi-sport athlete who also played Varsity Football for the Gaelic Knights. During his senior year as the team's quarterback, he completed 64-of-117 for 841 yards with six touchdowns. Greene also ran Track and Field throughout his high school years.

In the classroom, Greene is an Honor Roll student.  In Riverdale, Greene will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in business.
