Manhattan Mourns The Passing Of Judge Richard C. Wilbur

Sarasota, FL - Manhattan Athletics mourns the loss of 2003 Hall of Fame inductee Judge Richard C. Wilbur '58who passed away on December 27.

Wilbur was an integral part of three postseason appearances for Manhattan, as well as helping the Jaspers to the 1956 Holiday Festival Championship. As a senior, he averaged 10.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game and was a key member of Manhattan's 1958 NCAA Tournament run. Known as a tenacious defender, Wilbur helped limit NBA Hall of Famer Jerry West to just 10 points as the Jaspers upset top-ranked West Virginia 89-84 in the 1958 NCAA Tournament.

Following his time in Riverdale, Wilbur attended and graduated from Notre Dame Law school and became a Congressional Fellow for an academic year at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, before accepting a position in the Chief Counsel's Office of the IRS until 1966.

Wilbur then served as Minority Counsel on the Ways and Means Committee in the House of Representatives under Congressman Wilbur Mills. He worked on major legislation in the areas of Tax, Trade, Social Security, welfare reform, and enactment of Medicare and Medicaid, and was appointed to the U.S. Tax Court by President Nixon in 1974.
