Combined with the legacy of Steve Lappas and the energy of first-year head coach Fran Fraschilla, the 1992-1993 Manhattan Men's Basketball team achieved unparalleled dominance in its time. The Jaspers went 23-7 in the season and 12-2 during MAAC play en route to being the first Manhattan team win both the MAAC regular season and the MAAC Tournament Championship.

The Fraschilla era began with a roaring start, as the Jaspers opened up the season with an 80-56 win over Hofstra at Draddy Gym. Brooklyn College transfer Brenton Birmingham drilled six three-pointers en route to 26 points in setting set the tone for the Jaspers as they went a perfect 11-0 at home for the first time in program history.

Birmingham, who averaged 10.7 points per game and shot a conference-high 45 percent from downtown, was not the only offensive stalwart on Manhattan's roster. Keith Bullock led the Jaspers with 18.3 points per game and led the MAAC with 332 rebounds (11.1 per outing). Swingman Carey Edwards tallied 13.3 points per contest, while center Jamal Marshall recorded 12.3 points per game on 60 percent shooting. Bullock, Birmingham and Marshall have been inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame individually.

With the 23 wins in 1992-1993 and 25 victories the year prior, Manhattan had its first back-to-back 20-win seasons in program history. The 23 wins for Fraschilla are the most by a first-year Jasper head coach. Bullock also became the first Manhattan student-athlete to earn MAAC Player of the Year honors. Edwards also was recognized by the league in garnering All-MAAC Second Team honors.

Manhattan easily dispatched Loyola 57-32 in the MAAC Quarterfinals and edged Siena 71-70 to set up a date with Niagara in the Championship. The Purple Eagles were up 65-58 with 4:25 left, but Manhattan went on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 67 with 45 seconds left. After an errant shot, Jasper point guard Chris Williams was fouled with 2.6 ticks remaining. He hit one of two free throws in leading Manhattan to its first-ever MAAC Championship.

Manhattan earned its first invitation to the NCAA Tournament since 1958 as an 11-seed. Facing sixth-seeded Virginia, the Jaspers battled before ultimately falling 78-66. However, the end result did not sour one of the most impressive seasons in program history. The 1992-1993 Manhattan Men's Basketball team is proudly welcomed into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame.
