Manhattan Announces 2016 Schedule

Schedule

Riverdale, NY –
Reigning MAAC Coach of the Year Brendan Lawler has announced the 2016 Manhattan Women's Soccer Schedule, which will be comprised of 17 games.

"2017 poses a whole new challenge for our program as we try to take that last, but hardest step, toward a MAAC Championship," said Lawler. "I really like our non-conference schedule as Fordham, Hartford, Vermont and New Hampshire have had experience in semifinal and championship games over the last two seasons and will help prepare us for conference play."

The Jaspers reached the MAAC Championship game for the first time in program history a year ago while also setting a school-record with 21 points.

"We won't be able to sneak up on anybody in the MAAC after last season and our conference only continues to get deeper in talent every season," Lawler continued. "I have all the faith in the world that our players will bring the necessary mindset and grit needed to match their ability to challenge for a conference championship."

* The team will open its seven-game non-conference slate at home against reigning America East Regular Season Champion Hartford on Friday, August 19 before welcoming LIU Brooklyn on Monday, August 22 with both matches starting at 7:00 pm.

* Manhattan will also play host to Binghamton on Friday, September 2 at 7:00 pm and NJIT on Sunday, September 11 at 1:00 pm.

* The Jaspers will partake in the Vermont Tournament (Friday, August 26 & Sunday, August 28) against the host Catamounts and UNH while also traveling to local-rival Fordham, which reached the Atlantic 10 Championship game, on Sunday, September 4 at 1:00 pm.

* During MAAC Play, Manhattan will host Niagara (Saturday, September 17), Monmouth (Saturday, September 24), Quinnipiac (Wednesday, October 5), Marist (Wednesday, October 19) and Fairfield (Wednesday, October 26).

* The Jaspers will hit the road for games at Iona (Wednesday, September 28), Canisius (Saturday, October 1), Saint Peter's (Saturday, October 8), Rider (Wednesday, October 12) and Siena (Saturday, October 22).

* The First Round of the MAAC Tournament will be contested on Saturday, October 29 at the home fields of the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds.

* MAAC Semifinal and Final play will take play on Friday, November 4 and Sunday, November 6 at the home of the top seed.

* Manhattan, which was the No. 2 seed a year ago, will bring back 18 letterwinners next season.

* Seven starters return, highlighted by MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Jenny Bitzer (Messstetten, Germany / Louisiana Tech) and First Team All-MAAC selections Erica Modena (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) and Nicole Copping (Blue Point, NY / Bayport-Blue Point).
