TRUE Play of the Week
Riverdale, NY - Sophomore Michael Zingaro (Cortland Manor, NY / Walter Panas) made a career-high 21 saves between the pipes in Manhattan's win over NJIT but it was his coast-to-coast goal that is making reverberations nationally.
Zingaro's goal was named the TRUE Play of the Week. The weekly video spotlights a particularly impressive goal from the high school or collegiate ranks in the previous week of action.
From InsideLacrosse.Com:
"The 10-man ride has become and effective and popular tool in DI lacrosse, putting a lot of pressure on clearing teams and generating extra possessions for those that enjoy the squeeze tactic – consider it the lacrosse version of the full-court press. But much like the press can yield easy buckets on the other end for those that break it, the 10-man can provide opportunities for those who usually don't score to make it into the ledger. In Manhattan's sound beating of NJIT in Week 9, goalie Michael Zingaro saw his team being “10-manned” on a clear and began walking the ball upfield. Still seeing no one to move the rock to, he carried over midfield, dodged the pressure of a few long poles, got into the offensive box, and made his break for glory. Zingaro charged headlong at the cage and stuck a shot in the empty net, providing the rare goalie goal, and winning TRUE Play of the Week for Week 9."
Zingaro, who leads the nation with 13.55 saves per game, and the rest of the Jaspers return to action at Canisius on Saturday, April 10 with opening faceoff slated for 3:00 pm. Click HERE for a full preview.
