RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Lacrosse team (2-7, 0-3 MAAC) fell to the Pioneers of #20 Sacred Heart University (9-0, 4-0 MAAC) by a score of 13-5 inside Gaelic Park on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Pioneers jumped ahead with six early goals to open the game in the first quarter, the Jaspers responded quickly in the second quarter with a sequence featuring Sean Shelko shooting wide, before Jack Miller found the back of the net on the team's second attempt.
- The Green and White began building some momentum off a Sacred Heart turnover, with Miller finding Tyler Mosca for his first of the day.
- In the third quarter, after goalie Ryan Beller stopped a pair of Pioneer attempts, Connor Engel continued his hot play of late by posting his first goal of the afternoon.
- With the Jaspers trailing by five, a much-needed turnover by the Pioneers allowed Manhattan to take advantage with another two-shot attempt that included Engel's second goal of the game.
- Off another slew of Pioneers shot attempts, the Jaspers were able to stave off three with one Ryan Beller stop, before Brady Kezelman scooped his first ground ball of the afternoon, and found Liam Peabody for the final Jasper goal of the game.
STATS AND NOTES
- Connor Engel led the Green and White with two goals on three shots on target, while picking up three ground balls and causing two Pioneer turnovers.
- Tyler Mosca posted one goal for the Jaspers on four shots on target, with two ground balls.
- Jack Miller added one goal and one assist on the afternoon, with one shot on target, and one ground ball logged.
- Liam Peabody registered one goal on two shots on goal, with one ground ball.
- Nick Henry continued his exceptional freshman campaign with five shots, three of which were on target, scooped four ground balls, and caused a pair of Sacred Heart turnovers.
- As a team, the Jaspers converted all 24 of their clears on as many attempts.
