LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Inaugural Class for the Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award was named, featuring 77 deserving student-athletes across NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse. One of the student-athletes was senior defender Andrew Giandonato, per release on Thursday morning.
"Andy is the glue that holds our team together every single day," described Head Coach Doug Sage.
"His leadership, selflessness, and consistency make him someone both coaches and teammates rely on, whether it is keeping standards high in practice, helping younger players, or being the steady voice our locker room needs."
The Pottstown, PA native set a career high with 11 games started during the 2025 campaign, while scooping 16 ground balls and causing a career-high eight turnovers on the year.
"He showed his true dedication and commitment this past fall when he was unable to play due to an injury."
In 2025, Giandonato played in six games, picking up 11 ground balls and causing three turnovers, highlighted by a five-ground-ball effort in the 7-6 win over Quinnipiac on March 26.
"The impact he has on our culture often happens behind the scenes, but it is essential to our program."
Throughout his career, Giandonato played in 42 games, started in 11, all in 2025, taking one shot in 2024, picking up 49 ground balls, and causing 19 turnovers.
Finally, in the classroom, Giandonato concluded his tenure with a bachelor's degree in Finance, and was recognized by the MAAC with multiple All-Academic Team selections.
"He has continued to fully support his coaches and teammates both on and off the field in any area of need, and he's played every minute with grit and passion as if it were his last."
The Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, established in January 2026 by family members, former coaches, and friends close to Liam, honors its inaugural group of recipients exemplifying leadership, unwavering support for teammates and staff, outstanding sportsmanship, and meaningful community involvement.
