RIVERDALE, NY – Manhattan Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Doug Sage has announced the addition of Assistant Coach Brett Tenaglia on Friday afternoon.
"We are extremely excited to add Brett [Tenaglia] to the Jaspers Lacrosse coaching staff!" exclaimed Sage.
Tenaglia joins the Jaspers from UMass Lowell, where he served in the same capacity for the Riverhawks Men's Lacrosse program, and has logged nearly five seasons of coaching across the high school and collegiate levels.
Under his watch in the Commonwealth, Tenaglia saw the emergence of then-Sophomore attackman Danny Burke, who posted 20 goals and 11 assists for 31 points, while adding 10 ground-ball pickups and helping continue elevating an already stellar career.
In 2024, Tenaglia spent one season as the offensive coordinator at Western Connecticut State University, where he was responsible for developing and implementing high-performance offensive strategies and spearheading the design of dynamic playbooks that emphasized fast-paced and aggressive offense while promoting teamwork and individual skill and development.
While in Danbury, Tenaglia led native Long Islander and fellow attackman Julian Duque to a Little East Conference Player of the Year award with 58 goals, 20 assists, a team-high 78.2 shooting percentage that included three game-winning goals, and a team-high 31 ground balls scooped.
"His passion to coach the game at the highest level and eye for identifying talent on the recruiting trail makes him a perfect fit for our program."
Before coaching in the college ranks, Tenaglia coached for the Long Island Express North, where he coached classes of 2025 and 2029 and evaluated players' talent at tryouts.
Additionally, he served as a coach at his alma mater, New Fairfield High School, while holding the title of New Fairfield Lacrosse Camp Coordinator and Coach for one year.
"Brett has played for and coached under some of the best coaches in college lacrosse, giving him a strong foundation to excel in his new role here in the Bronx."
As a student-athlete, Tenaglia started his career at Furman University in 2020, before abruptly canceling the season. While playing for the Paladins, Tenaglia played in seven games and started in five, while logging at least one goal in six of the seven games played, totaling 11 goals and nine assists, with a whopping 51.4 percent shooting percentage as a freshman in the Big South.
Following the pandemic, Tenaglia moved closer to home and took his talents to Syracuse University, where he was named team captain for the 2024 campaign.
While in Central New York, Tenaglia was named to the Dean's List six times, ACC Academic Honor Roll four times, and was a nominee for the 2024 Doris Soladay Award, Syracuse's athletics highest honor presented to both male and female student-athletes, recognizing student-athletes for their academic success, athletic accomplishment, leadership, and community engagement.
Tenaglia graduated from Syracuse University Magna Cum Laude with his bachelor's degree in communication and rhetorical studies in 2023, before earning his certificate of advanced study in intercollegiate athletic advising support in 2024.
