RIVERDALE, N.Y. – A total of 60 Manhattan College student-athletes participated in the College's 172nd Commencement Exercises at Draddy Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. There was at least one member of each of the Jaspers' 19 Division I teams represented in the Class of 2014.
Kate Bowen, the captain of the Manhattan softball team, delivered the valedictory address as the winner of The Donald J. Carty Valedictory Medal. She's the first physical education major ever to receive this honor.
Other graduating student-athletes who earned special awards were:
- Stefano Carlacci (men's soccer), The Frederick Mortati Medal for Italian
- Tom Voorheis (men's cross country/track & field), The John T. Miller Jr. Medal for Sociology
- Kelsey Rehain (women's lacrosse), The John S. Sich Medal for Kinesiology
- Rokas Kirlys (men's track & field), The Edward Dougherty Medal for Business
- Daniel Festa (men's soccer), The Captain Frederick J. Finn Medal for Finance
- Ieva Vitola (women's track & field), The Dean James L. Fitzgerald Medal for Management
In addition, Kirlys led the procession of graduates from the School of Business as student marshal.
Overall, the Class of 2014 consisted of 750 graduates.
