GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Manhattan Jaspers women's lacrosse team (1-8), despite five goals from Maya Metz, fell in its non-conference contest to the Paladins of Furman (4-5) by a final score of 15-12 at Paladin Stadium on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Manhattan got off to one of their fastest starts this season, with the first four strikes coming by way of the visitors.
- Maya Metz got things going with a free position opportunity 56 seconds in, with Ella Brunette and Julia Kerr following up within a minute of the first goal.
- Brunette fired home her second of the night off a feed from Brooke Leonard for the initial four spot.
- After the Paladins cut the lead in half, Metz secured her first hat trick of 2026, capitalizing off two man-up chances.
- Keeping the scoring going for the second, Metz then tallied her fourth and fifth to put the Jaspers up 8-5 less than five minutes into period two.
- Kerr found her second scoring chance and took advantage to give the Green and White a two goal edge at the halftime break.
- Lauren Maher and Brunette tacked on another pair by late in the third frame, re-securing the four goal advantage they held in the first.
- Furman began to take control in the latter half of the final quarter, as they tied the game at 12-all less than four minutes in.
- The Paladins scored the final three goals over the final 6:40 of action, ending the midweek showdown.
STATS AND NOTES
- Senior attacker Maya Metz put together a career-high five goals on eight shots, all of which came before the halftime horn.
- Sophomore attacker and Freshman midfielder Julia Kerr and Ella Brunette followed closely behind with three, for what was Kerr's sixth hat trick of the season.
- Senior defender and Junior midfielder Naomi Aristone and Catie Edson tied for the most caused turnovers with two.
- Junior midfielder Audrey Ziff won the most draw controls with 15, a new career-high for the Virginia native.
- Redshirt Junior goalkeeper Sophie Pasnak logged 12 saves through a full 60 minutes, her highest mark since her season debut at UMass Lowell on Feb. 6.

Manhattan will continue its 2026 campaign on Saturday, March 21 when the Jaspers open up MAAC play against the Golden Griffins from Canisius. Action from Gaelic Park will get underway starting at 10:00 AM and can be viewed on ESPN+ with a paid subscription.
