Jaspers' Baseball Team Runs to Support Michael's Cause

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - It was a beautiful Sunday morning on September 22, when the Manhattan College baseball team gathered together with more than 400 individuals to participate in a 5K run on Staten Island.

The team ran in support of Michael's Cause, named for Michael Capolongo, a seven-year-old boy from Staten Island, whose family is friends with Manhattan head coach Jim Duffy's family. Capolongo was diagnosed in November 2010 with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic disorder that affects one in 3,500 young boys worldwide.

The mission of Michael's Cause is to raise awareness of Duchenne muscular dystrophy as well as direct funding for future treatments and a possible cure. "The more awareness that's out there," Duffy said, "the better the chance is of finding a cure."
