RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College men's lacrosse team's man-down defense has been recognized by the NCAA as the nation's best in the recently completed 2010 season. The Jaspers allowed just 10 goals in 59 man-down situations this season, a percentage of .831.
Manhattan held its opponent without a man-up goal in eight of its 16 games in 2010, and the Jaspers didn't surrender more than two in any single game. The man-down unit also scored a pair of goals. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) teams went 1-2 in the category, as MAAC regular season champion Siena placed second with a percentage of .795 (15-of-73).
This marks the first time that the Jaspers have finished the season as the national leader in any statistical category. Individually, two different Manhattan goalkeepers have led the nation in save percentage. James Amandola had a save percentage of .685 in 2002, while John Geagan's .653 save percentage in 2006 was the best in Division I.
