RIVERDALE, N.Y. - After a stellar 16-save performance in a 15-6 win over VMI on Saturday, Manhattan College junior goalkeeper Jon Fiorillo (Painted Post, N.Y.) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week.
Fiorillo yielded just six goals in the victory, and didn't allow more than two goals in any period. He stopped 16 of the Keydets' 37 shots. Fiorillo also corralled four ground balls in the game to pick up his fourth win of the season. Entering Tuesday night's game at Hofstra, he had won four of his last five decisions.
He is the second Jasper to earn MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. Sophomore defenseman Kyle Moeller (South Setauket, N.Y.) was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on March 15 for his play in Manhattan's loss to Princeton.
Manhattan (4-5) is back in action on Saturday night, when No. 15 Villanova (6-3) comes to Gaelic Park for a 7 p.m. showdown. The contest will be webcast live at www.gojaspers.com as a part of the JasperVision package.
