RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College men's basketball forward Demetrius Jemison has been cleared by the NCAA after satisfying conditions of a graduate transfer waiver. The 6'8", 240-pound big man will be eligible to compete immediately, beginning with the Jaspers' contest against Binghamton on Saturday.
Jemison earned his bachelor's degree in consumer science from Alabama last spring with a season of eligibility remaining. He will complete his eligibility at Manhattan while pursuing a master's degree in the school of education.
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Jemison averaged four points, four rebounds and shot 47.1% from the field over his career with the Crimson Tide. Jemison appeared in 32 games as a freshman posting 2.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, and he shot 72.2% from the free-throw line. He was a co-winner of the team's Defensive Award.
Jemison enjoyed a break out campaign on and off the court during his sophomore season. He started 32 of 33 appearances averaging 5.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and had 20 blocks, while also receiving Academic All-SEC recognition. As a junior, Jemison made 28 appearances and finished the year averaging 3.1 points and 3.1 rebounds, and he ranked second on the team with a 52.8% field goal percentage.
A standout student-athlete at Huffman High School in Birmingham, Jemison scored more than 2,000 points, grabbed more than 1,000 rebounds and had 350 blocked shots during his career. He was a 2006 All-State selection after averaging 13.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks to help lead Huffman to the 6A state championship game.
