Luis Flores ?04 Represents Dominican Republic at 2009 FIBA Americas Championship

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan alumnus Luis Flores '04, the all-time leading scorer in Jasper basketball history, is representing the Dominican Republic at the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship which began today at Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ten national teams are competing for a spot in the 2010 FIBA World Championships. Live video broadcasts of the tournament are available at FIBAtv.com.

Flores racked up 12 points and nine assists over 38 minutes of action today in the Dominican Republic's opening round loss to Brazil, 81-68. Competing alongside NBA players Al Horford (Atlanta Hawks), Charlie Villanueva (Milwaukee Bucks) and Francisco Garcia (Sacramento Kings), Flores and the squad will take on Panama in their second round game on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. (ET) airing live on ESPN DEPORTES.

Flores led Manhattan to back-to-back MAAC Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances (2003 & 2004), also helping the Jaspers to a First Round upset of Florida in 2004. He scored 2,046 points in 89 games for the Jaspers. Flores is currently playing professionally in Israel where he averaged 18.2 points per game last season with Hapoel Holon.
