Riverdale, N.Y. (February 15, 2007)?Defenseman Corey Dolik, a 2006 MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, earned a spot on the 2007 All-MAAC Pre-season Men's Lacrosse Team, and the league's coaches projected Dolik and the Jaspers to finish sixth in the MAAC Pre-season Poll, which was recently released by the conference office.
Manhattan, who received 37 points in the poll, returns several members of a defense that finished last season ranked 24th in the NCAA allowing only 8.46 goals per game. One of the team's three captains, Dolik rejoins fellow co-captain Tim Clancy at defense in front of sophomore goalie John Geagan. As a rookie, Geagan was an NCAA Statistical Champion by posting a nation's best .663 save percentage. Missing from the unit, however, will be 2006 All-MAAC First Team selection Pat Farrelly who graduated this past May.
In the pre-season prognostications, the Jaspers were selected ahead Marist College, Virginia Military Institute, and Wagner College, while defending champion Providence College was picked to repeat. Attackman Kevin Ross of Canisius College, who was tabbed third in the poll, earned MAAC Pre-season Player of the Year honors.
Before officially opening up their 2007 campaign at the University of Delaware on February 24, the Jaspers will scrimmage both Stony Brook University and Dowling College on Saturday, February 17 with the first contest against SBU to face-off at 11:00 a.m. in Stony Brook, N.Y.
