MEN'S BASKETBALL TO PLAY EASTERN MICHIGAN AS PART OF O?REILLY?S ESPNU BRACKETBUSTERS WEEKEND

January 30, 2007 (Riverdale, N.Y.) The Manhattan College men's basketball team will travel to Mid-American Conference member Eastern Michigan on Saturday, February 17 for a non-conference tilt as part of O'Reilly's ESPNU BracketBusters weekend, which gives mid-major programs the opportunity to bolster their NCAA Tournament credentials on a national stage. The game will be the third meeting all-time between the two programs.

Eastern Michigan is currently 8-12 overall and 3-4 in the MAC. The Eagles, who have dropped three of four games, lost sophomore point guard and leading scorer Carlos Medlock (6-0; 170) for the rest of the season with a broken right foot suffered in Sunday's 89-76 win over Buffalo. Junior guard Jesse Bunkley (6-5; 195) is the team's second leading scorer with 11.3 points per game.

The two programs have spilt their previous two meetings, which were part of a home and home series. During the 1994-95 season, the Jaspers defeated Eastern Michigan 73-71 at Draddy Gymnasium, but the following year Eastern Michigan returned the favor, winning 88-76 in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Eastern Michigan is also the alma mater of Markus Austin, older brother of Manhattan's sophomore forward Devon Austin. The older Austin is the Eagles' 11th all-time leading scorer with 1,425 points.

The Jaspers, currently 10-10 overall and 7-3 in MAAC play, will be making their fourth consecutive appearance on BracketBusters, and will be the road team for the third time. Manhattan hosts Marist on January 30 at 7:00 p.m., before traveling to Niagara on February 2 for a game that will televised on ESPNU.
