Men’s Basketball Falls to Fordham in the Battle of the Bronx

BRONX, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Basketball team (4-7, 1-1 MAAC) fell to the Rams of Fordham University (8-4, 0-0 A10) by a score of 81-52 inside Rose Hill Gym in the 116th edition of the Battle of the Bronx on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Looking to avenge the effort against the Marist Red Foxes one week ago, the Green and White, inside familiar territory at Rose Hill, with hopes of defending its 2024 Battle of the Bronx title.
  • Opening the contest for the Jaspers was Fraser Roxburgh, who knocked down a three from well beyond the arc to knot the contest at three just minutes in.
  • Trailing by as much as four, five minutes in, graduate guard Terrance Jones was the immediate spark plug for Manhattan off the bench to bring his team within one.
  • Going airborne was Erik Oliver-Bush, who netted the alley-oop attempt off a perfect feed from Jaden Winston to give the Jaspers fans in the building a much-needed boost.
  • Nine minutes into the contest, it was Devin Dinkins, who knocked down a step-back triple to shrink the deficit to five.
  • Converting on back-to-back turnovers were both Anthony Isaac and Winston, respectively, to capitalize on a pair of baskets down the stretch of the first half.
  • Out of the locker room quickly was Dinkins, who knocked down the first basket in the second half to make the contest just two possessions, 18 seconds in.
  • In response to the Rams converting on a step-back jumper, it was Roxburgh who again made it a four-point deficit.
  • After both teams traded buckets to open the second stanza, Dinkins again kept the Jaspers within range, bringing them to within five on a step-back three.
  • Once Fordham jumped out to a sizeable lead, it was Oliver-Bush who attempted to stop the bleeding with a driving layup to cut the lead down marginally.
  • Isaac, again, found his way underneath, in perfect position, after Dinkins missed the layup, to bury home the second chance two points.

STATS AND NOTES
  • Junior forward Anthony Isaac paced the Green and White with 16 points of the afternoon in a four-of-six shooting performance. The Blinn College transfer was also perfect from the charity stripe in eight total attempts. Isaac also grabbed three rebounds and stole one in 20 minutes off the bench.
  • Junior guard Jaden Winston added nine points to the scoreboard, while grabbing four rebounds, assisting on seven baskets, and stealing two in 34 minutes of game time.
  • Redshirt Junior guard Devin Dinkins posted eight points, with one assist, and two three-pointers in 33 minutes on the floor.
  • Manhattan led with 21 bench points compared to Fordham's 14 on the afternoon.
