Riverdale, N.Y. (October 23, 2006)-After being at the heart of a defense that frustrated opposing attackers this past weekend,
Ashley Watson now has the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week award to show for it. Watson, a junior, earned the award for the second time in her career, it was announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Over Manhattan's two matches this past week, both of which were conference victories for the Lady Jaspers, Watson averaged a monstrous 7.25 digs per game.
In a five-game showdown with Rider University, Watson recorded a new career high in digs with 36. The junior followed up that performance with 22 digs in a three-game sweep of Iona College.
Watson, who has been serving as the team's libero, earned her other MAAC Defensive Player of the Week award in October 2005, when she averaged 4.07 digs per game over four matches at the outside hitter position.
Watson and her teammates will next take the floor on Friday, October 27 at home against Niagara University.
